Nursery Crops: Strawberry & Raspberry

Seedlings and the young plants in berry nurseries are hit the hardest by disease and pests, and they are in the most need of healthy, fertilized soil where they can develop a nurishing root structure in order to produce a strong, viable plant and a profitable business.

Soil fumigation with Trident controls common fungal diseases including Fusarium, Pythium, Phytophthora, and Cylindrocarpon. Disease and Weed control also addresses intra- and interstate plant shipment requirements for 'clean' plants.

Strawberry Registration & Certification Program

California based, TAP has customers in southern Oregon that follow the below certification program

The Strawberry Program is a voluntary multi-step clean stock system. Foundation Stock is 100% tested for diseases of concern, and stock moves down to (Registered) and out (Certified) of the system through subsequent growing seasons. Nursery stock at all levels of the program is inspected and tested for viral, fungal, and bacterial pathogens, nematodes, and varietal purity.

Plant Certification

Raspberry and Strawberry PNW through ODA & WSDA

Plant certification programs are provided on a voluntary basis for raspberries and strawberries. Plant stock entered into certification is inspected, tested and indexed for harmful insect pests, viruses and virus-like diseases. The Plant Service Program provides regulatory inspections of licensed retail and wholesale nurseries to ensure that consumers and the nursery industry are provided healthy, pest-free and disease-free plant stock.

Soil to Substrate: Key Irrigation and Fertigation Ideas for Long Cane Raspberries

PH is key in a soil system for berries. Traditional soil production for soft fruit crops is a buffered system that is slow to change. Think of substrate as a high risk, high reward type system where your attention to detail is very important.

When Size Matters
When Size Matters

When a plant is unfumigated they have a smaller root system which means that water and nutrient uptake is poor. As a result, more water and fertiliser have to be applied to the soil for the stunted root systems to extract both. This increases wastage and input costs.
